The McR Craftspeople can provide a variety of professional woodworking, carpentry & joinery courses to suit our clients needs.
We work in partnership with the Scottish Lime Center Trust to provide a range of highly informative traditional carpentry courses in order to up-skill Scotland's construction industry and built heritage sector at our Merryhill Training Facility in Fife.
We also offer private tuition to any individual or group, located at venues across the country/globe or brought to you in the comfort of your own home.
“We brought John over to teach our students carpentry last April. The students absolutely loved the time they spent with him. His energy and passion for the craft shines through and his relaxed nature put all the students at ease. I would highly recommend anyone interested in learning carpentry, joineryand traditional timber layout techniques to study with John”

Focussing primarily on timber engineering, we will take you from design all the way through to the finishing touches on your bespoke piece of timber craft work.
We can incorporate geometric design & build, traditional structures, traditional carpentry & joinery ,working with natural materials or achieving great aesthetics, intergrating as much theory or practical craft skills as you feel neccesary. Wood carving, wood turning and traditional oak timber framing are another few of the skills you can learn through the academy. This course can be provided from our workshop near Dunfermline or brought to a work space of your choice.
Introduction to Wood Carving
Wood carving is a craft which can often be picked up quicker than others, although it will take more than a few hours to become the next Leonardo Da Vinci.
People who work with hand tools every day will be at an obvious advantage but with good tuition and step by step guidance the complete beginners will flourish just as quickly.
This course can be booked in hourly or daily sessions which can be at a time or date that is most suited. We advise one to two days minimum for group sessions. We then hope you will either come back for private tuition, or purchase your own set of carving chisels in order to progress in your own time.
